My aim is to achieve the Highest Standard possible of Training across the First Aid Industry and create a Level Playing Field so that every Training Organisation operates in a Professional manner and is able to compete for business in fair competition irrespective of size so long as they are working to the standards required.
I have been in the First Aid Industry for over 20 years, and was Head of the First Aid Approvals and Monitoring section of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for 12 years where I worked very closely with the Approved First Aid Training Providers to achieve Consistency and promote High Standards of training.
Upon leaving HSE I formed the Federation of First Aid Training Organisations (FOFATO) in 2007 at the request of First Aid Training providers and we have around 400 Members across the United Kingdom. In 2012 again at the request of First Aid Training providers I formed the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) in order to Regulate First Aid Training Providers and to offer a Professional Quality alternative to that of the Ofqual/SQA system for accreditation.
I provide support, advice and guidance and Totally Impartial Information to Employers and Training Organisations across the First Aid Industry regarding First Aid requirements in the Workplace. I can also help Employers to find a Professional High Standard First Aid Training Provider.

I provide information on the Industry Body option for regulation through the First Aid Industry Body. It being the only viable alternative to Ofqual/SQA route and provides the best Professional direct monitoring of Training Organisations and Trainers/Assessors, is Far Less Bureaucratic, Far Less Costly and can include an Independent Practical Assessment for a First Aid at Work course. It provides all the Assurances required by the the Lofstedt Review of HSE and most importantly Training Organisations Will Issue Their Own Certificates.
The HSE guidance for Employers states "HSE Does not promote, Recommend or Support Any Particular Route to Delivery of First Aid Training".
As a consequence of the work that I and our Members have done in putting pressure on HSE we ensured the HSE guidance made clear that Employers and Training Providers do have a choice of the Option they choose for Regulation/Accreditation.

However that work is Not Complete and until the HSE guidance is completely unbiased I and our Registered Training Providers Will Not Rest.
I would encourage Public Sector Employers including Local Authorities and Government Departments (particularly in times of Austerity) as well as small, medium and large Private Sector Employees to consider our option. The First Aid Industry Body Guarantees the Due Diligence required of Training Organisations on First Aid courses including First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid but at Far Less Cost compared to the OFQUAL/SQA Option consequently costing Employers Less.
I am Passionate about the First Aid Industry and particularly about Standards Of Training and about creating The Level Playing Field because I know we have many Excellent Training Providers out there.
